About the Team: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Team Lead, Trade and Customs, to oversee and manage cross border activity in the United States and Canada. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable customs regulations, optimizing import processes, and managing relationships with customs brokers, carriers, and other key stakeholders. This role requires a deep understanding of North American trade regulations, customs procedures, and supply chain management to support efficient and compliant operations. Your Role as Team Lead Supervisor, Trade and Customs (United States & Canada): Import Operations Management: Oversee and manage the daily import operations for the United States and Canada, ensuring timely and compliant processing of all shipments. Lead a team of trade and customs professionals, fostering a collaborative environment focused on achieving operational excellence and compliance. Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and carriers to ensure accurate documentation and smooth customs clearance. Monitor and resolve any issues related to customs clearance, including discrepancies in documentation, delays, and non-compliance. Ensure accurate classification, valuation, and documentation of imported goods in accordance with U.S. and Canadian customs regulations. Compliance and Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all import activities comply with U.S. and Canadian customs regulations, including adherence to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) requirements. Stay current with changes in customs laws, regulations, and policies affecting U.S. and Canadian import operations, and communicate updates to relevant teams. Conduct regular audits and reviews of import transactions to assess compliance and identify areas for improvement. Process Optimization: Develop and implement strategies to optimize import processes, reduce costs, and improve efficiency. Identify opportunities for leveraging trade agreements, duty drawback programs, and other preferential tariff programs to enhance cost-effectiveness. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including supply chain, finance, and legal teams, to integrate trade considerations into business processes. Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and maintain strong working relationships with customs brokers, freight carriers, and government agencies to facilitate smooth import operations. Serve as the primary point of contact for customs-related inquiries and issues for the U.S. and Canadian markets. Work closely with internal teams to ensure alignment on import activities and to resolve any operational challenges. Identify and mitigate risks associated with import operations, including compliance risks, supply chain disruptions, and changes in tariff classifications. Develop and implement risk management strategies to ensure continuity and compliance in import operations. Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to internal teams on customs compliance requirements, import procedures, and best practices for the U.S. and Canadian markets. Mentor and develop team members to enhance their skills and knowledge in trade and customs operations. Craft your career with us if you have: Minimum of five years of experience in trade compliance and customs operations, with a focus on U.S. and Canadian markets. Strong knowledge of U.S. and Canadian customs regulations, including HTS classification, ACE, Duty Drawback, First Sale, Reconciliation, and C-TPAT requirements. Proven experience in managing import operations, including working with customs brokers, freight carriers, and government agencies. Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to address and resolve customs-related issues efficiently. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulations. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software for monitoring and reporting import operations. Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications: Licensed Customs Broker or similar professional certification (e.g., CCS or CES).
