Purpose of role You are responsible for overseeing and implementing safety protocols for drivers, office and shop personnel. Develop, maintain, and evolve the company safety program (CSA SMS, Unsafe Driving, Crash Indicators, Hours of Service, Vehicle Maintenance, Controlled Substance and Alcohol) to ensure overall safety activities are compliant with industry and governmental standards Effectively present new safety programs and policies to drivers Oversee driver recruiting efforts (ex. minimum hiring requirements, motor vehicle reports, preemployment screening, criminal background checks, driver qualifications files, commercial driver applications and qualifications, past employment verification, road test requirements) Work with all departments to ensure safety policies and practices are integrated into the companies operating procedures in an efficient manner Serve as the safety expert and lead advisor on emerging safety trends and legal changes, ensuring timely knowledge sharing to support coworkers' growth within their roles. Candidate requirements Bachelor's degree preferred along with 5 years' experience in safety management Proven competency in safety leadership Intermediate to expert knowledge of DOT, FMCSA Rules and Regulations Working understanding of safety procedures as well as federal, state and provincial safety regulations applicable to the trucking industry Must possess effective communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills Must have the wherewithal, confidence, and social aptitude to carry out executive level responsibilities Must be detail oriented and excellent in file management Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines Must be able to swiftly and effectively respond in challenging circumstances The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals and freight documentation Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus Must pass a pre-employment background check Technology & Software Qualifications Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Working knowledge of Windows and proficiency with PC platforms Proficient in using various software applications and adept at proposing innovative uses for new programs Job Type: Full-time #J-18808-Ljbffr
