About the position The Multifunctional Landscapes program is seeking a Research Specialist to lead the technical and methodological development of the monitoring framework for zero deforestation in agricultural value chains.
This role focuses on ensuring the effective implementation of strategies aligned with the Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) Protocol, driving advanced data analysis and coordinating technical activities.
The position is critical to supporting the project's strategic objectives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
This position is based in Bogotá, Colombia.
Key Responsibilities Technical and Methodological Management • Contribute to the design and implementation of improvements to the MRV Protocol to align with international standards and the specific requirements of cacao, dairy, and beef value chains.
• Supervise and coordinate data collection in the field, ensuring quality and consistency in the geospatial information gathered.
• Develop innovative tools and methodologies to enhance the analysis and monitoring of zero deforestation commitments.
Analysis and Development of Advanced Tools • Process and analyze geospatial data using advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and satellite imagery processing tools.
• Contribute to designing interactive dashboards and advanced visualizations to report on the progress and results of monitoring efforts.
• Contribute to the development of cost-effective and scalable tools for monitoring agricultural value chains.
Strategic Collaboration and Reporting • Actively participate in meetings with strategic partners to ensure technical activities align with project objectives.
• Prepare technical and executive reports in English and Spanish, including recommendations based on advanced analyses and field findings.
• Ensure that results and technical recommendations are clearly and effectively communicated to internal and external stakeholders.
Capacity Building • Contribute to designing and implementing training sessions for field teams and partners on tools and methodologies related to deforestation monitoring and analysis.
• Promote the transfer of technical knowledge within the project team and to partner organizations.
Requirements Required qualifications and experience • Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agronomy, Environmental Sciences, or related fields.
• Master's degree in Geomatics, Environmental Sciences, or related fields.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in deforestation analysis, geospatial monitoring, and agricultural sustainability.
• Advanced experience with GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS) and satellite imagery processing.
• Proven expertise in sustainability projects, zero deforestation, and environmental monitoring.
• Advanced proficiency in data analysis tools: R, Python, Power BI.
• Ability to design and develop interactive dashboards and advanced visualizations.
• Advanced English proficiency (oral and written).
• Valid driver's license.

Benefits Terms of employment This is a position placed at a BG08, on a scale of 14 levels, with BG14 being the highest level.
This is a national position and will be managed through a fixed-term contract with a duration of one (1) year, subject to a probation period according to the local legislation and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources.
