Leading company specializing in the design of control solutions for the building automation industry is seeking to fill the following position: Design Engineer - Senior Level The Senior Design Engineer I, under administrative supervision, will be responsible for the design of custom, state-of-the-art electronic and DDC control systems that meet our clients' plans and specifications.
Each solution will be implemented, on schedule, in a cost-effective and professional manner.
The Senior Design Engineer will act as the primary design engineer on projects and may lead project teams consisting of other Design Engineers.
The Senior Control System Engineer will independently lead the design phase of the project from inception to completion through interpretation of specifications, design engineering, selection of components, creation, and checking of drawings, and resolution of problems.
This role requires a technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the HVAC control design field and recognized expertise in control theory for specific systems.
Problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues without precedent or structure.
The engineer may manage projects that require formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources with a high degree of autonomy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Ensure that project requirements and risks are understood by: Attending sales turnover meetings to gain knowledge of the sales estimate and project scope.
Analyzing project plans, specifications, sales estimates, and sales proposals.
Creating a list of project engineering deliverables (submittals, workflow packages, etc.).
Generating Request For Information (RFI) requests.
Ensure that final product matches the design intent and clearly communicates design and operation of system by: Creating controls drawings utilizing AutoCAD software that include flow diagrams, sequences of operation, bills of material, network layouts, schedules, and electrical schematics as required.
Checking controls drawings created by other engineers for accuracy and compliance with project scope and providing feedback.
Make final decisions regarding installation methods and materials by: Selecting the appropriate mix of products and installation methods to provide the most cost-effective solution that complies with project specifications, applicable codes, and company standards.
Reviewing and approving the purchasing bill of materials for projects.
Select the proper control valves and actuators by: Investigating the applicability of different valve styles and sizes to a particular application, with a preference for control valves manufactured by Honeywell.
Completing and submitting a comprehensive and accurate control valve schedule in a timely manner.
Reviewing and approving control valve schedules for purchase.
Design a stable, robust, implementable, scalable, and high-performing BMS communication network by: Determining network architecture, topology, and transmission media appropriate for the installation and conforming to the latest network standards and project specifications.
Selecting network components (such as servers, switches, routers) that support operator workstations, DDC field panels, and third-party integration devices connected via Lonworks, Ethernet, Modbus, or BACnet communication protocols.
Producing network wiring diagrams and addressing documents that provide a clear picture of the design in a timely manner.
Get approval from the customer or consulting engineer on installation methodology and materials by: Preparing submittal documents that demonstrate compliance with contract drawings and specifications.
Ensure successful procurement of electrical subcontractors by: Preparing electrical subcontractor buyout documents that clearly define the electrical scope of work.
Working closely with the project manager.
Maintain relationships and develop trust with internal and external customers by: Maintaining commitments made to the customer.
Escalating pressing customer issues as necessary to the Department Manager.
Communicating technical concepts/solutions in writing and verbally.
Requirements: Knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) software.
Knowledge of AutoCAD software.
Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory.
Knowledge of the elements and building blocks of HVAC controls.
Knowledge of damper actuator and control valve sizing and selection.
Knowledge of control strategies and logic for optimum operation of plant-level HVAC systems (such as chillers, boilers, and air handlers).
Knowledge of control strategies for supplemental HVAC systems (such as VAV boxes, fan coil units, and unit heaters).
Knowledge of supervisory control strategies for overall BMS operation (such as life safety control, electrical demand control, etc.).
Knowledge of BMS communication protocols and network topologies, with an understanding of installation and configuration best practices.
Knowledge of Honeywell DDC product offerings.
Knowledge of the company's design standards and processes.
