Purpose The Quality Assurance Functional Specialist is responsible for coordinating and/or executing the testing for multiple projects or releases while being deployed on Agile or Waterfall software development teams. The Quality Assurance Functional Specialist must be an active collaborator on the project team and will work beside the Senior Manager to meet project goals. The incumbent is responsible for following quality assurance and testing practices and is expected to provide test designing, test execution, defect tracking, and QA progress monitoring services. This position may involve managing people, thus requiring the ability to handle and support team members in their daily processes. The role breakdown will be: 20% Analysis and Design of Test Strategy, 15% Test Execution and coordination (Automated (Selenium tool) and Manual), 65% Ability to handle and solve reported issues for other team members (external to QAT). Accountabilities Supervise and coordinate testing for projects/releases: Assess UAT projects to determine the risk of releasing the code into the current test environment, specifically the possible impact on multiple projects, the degree of overlap in the applications and the code itself, within extremely tight timeframes. Design UAT test plans; assign and review test documentation (functions, test cases, scripts); balance the need to mitigate risk with the optimal use of testing resources while adhering to UAT policies, standards, and procedures. Schedule and approve the release of projects into the UAT environment; execute complex test plans and supervise the execution of testing, coordinating resources, people, and environments on a daily basis to meet the specific requirements for a project; manage multiple stakeholders with conflicting time and needs requirements; coordinate code delivery with external service providers. Support with hands-on creation of test data and execution of test cases as needed, document test results, and conduct defect triage meetings with multiple stakeholders. Execute Test Automation Scripts, analyze the test logs, and validate the test results. Should be able to make simple changes to the automated test cases using the Selenium tool. Continually evaluate priorities for various projects in response to frequent directional changes and take decisive action as required. Assess the results of UAT tests and take appropriate action; work closely with the development group to resolve defects; escalate issues to management when necessary; make recommendations to release the code to Production. Manage an achievement-oriented work group in our department. Support the work team at any moment. Transfer application and process expertise to more junior analysts within UAT; provide hands-on training on systems, hardware, environment, product, standards, and methodology to test team members; coach, motivate, and provide feedback on department and project objectives, conflict resolution, and team building to assigned staff. Work with individual project teams, during the software development life cycle, to ensure business and technical requirements have been fulfilled; contribute recommendations and assessments to ongoing project reviews. If/when deployed on agile teams, work as a cross-functional QA team member working within sprints. Collaborate with other scrum team members to develop validation scenarios, create test cases, execute test cases, resolve bugs, assist test automation engineer with test design, execute automated test cases, and analyze test results. Maintain a thorough and current understanding of a broad range of assigned banking applications, UAT code configuration, system integration, environment resources, and code delivery process; provide technical advice to development teams and external suppliers on the integration of specific applications within the UAT environment. Forecast workday estimates based upon project documentation; monitor resource demands and escalate resource shortfalls or conflicts as required. Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance personal breadth and depth of expertise and proactively apply knowledge on the job; identify and recommend enhancements or modifications to UAT processes to continually improve overall department efficiency and effectiveness. Other accountabilities: • Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge. • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. • Pursue effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk. • Champion a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment. Education/Experience 2+ years of software development experience Knowledge of SDLC – Waterfall and Agile. Experience working in waterfall and/or agile teams. Knowledge of SQL and ability to write complex queries. Experience working with Java, SQL, BDD, and POM. Ability to propose solutions independently in pursuit of established objectives. Strong working knowledge of department-related software. Well-developed leadership ability. Strong interpersonal skills. Superior analytical skills. High aptitude for handling reported issues and providing solutions. Nice to have: 3+ years of software development experience Ability to supervise business applications testing with Web interfaces, GUI, and green screen emulation in the following environment platforms: Host 4700/3270, IMS, AS/400, Client/Server, Windows. Understanding of code management, server and application layering, environment configuration, and databases. Experience working with Micro Focus (OpenText) application suite. Knowledge in VBs, Atlassian suite tools.
