POSICIÓN: Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Officer /Research Focused
RESUMEN DE LA POSICIÓN:
HIAS seeks one program officer to manage a research-intervention project led by HIAS, and New School University, with Universidad del Norte support, to develop and evaluate a psychosocial and protection intervention for refugees and other forcibly displaced persons in Colombia.
The primary aim of the project is to address mental health needs among Venezuelan adolescent girls and adult women survivors of GBV in Colombia.
Given the barriers to care, and similar conditions in other settings, we propose to adapt, implement, evaluate, and support the uptake, translation, and dissemination of findings of a scalable mental health and psychosocial intervention (MHPSS) intervention, Group Problem-Management Plus (Group PM+), to reduce psychological distress among Venezuelan migrant adolescent and adult women survivors of GBV in Barranquilla, Colombia.
FUNCIONES PRINCIPALES:
- The program officer will work collaboratively with the research partners and HIAS HQ MHPSS team for the qualitative and quantitative phases of the project.
- The program officer will be responsible of coordinating the overall project activities, supervise and train technically the research assistants, implement and participate in PM+ activities in the field and training of trainers, monitor the implementation of the PM+ sessions, coordinate community activities and joint activities with other organizations, provide individual psychosocial support when needed.
- The program officer will also be responsible for monitoring the COVID-19 situation to ensure that study procedures comply with public health recommendations to protect the health and wellbeing of staff and participants.
- The program officer will report on these activities regularly to the principal investigators and HIAS program managers through weekly (at minimum) Zoom/phone calls.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
**EDUCACIÓN FORMAL**
- Bachelors level background in psychology with academic or field research experience (Graduate degree preferred-)
**EXPERIENCIA LABORAL**
- Experience in public health, health research, mental health, protection, and refugee health
- Demonstrated experience with operationalizing MHPSS global standards and principles
- Excellent proficiency in English and Spanish (speaking and writing proficiency)
- Proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Excellent social and managerial skills and ability to build rapport with people
- Detail-oriented individuals able to work both independently and with a team
- At least 2 years of previous experience in research
- Affiliation/partnership with local academic research institutions to facilitate local research partnerships and ethical approvals
**CONOCIMIENTOS ADICIONALES**
- Experience working in complex humanitarian and public health emergencies
- Ability to work and supervise a team, maintain respect for diversity, uphold integrity, respect and accountability.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including the ability to regularly communicate with, motivate and support field-based staff as well as effectively communicate key program achievements and operational challenges
- Knowledge of the context of Barranquilla
