Job Overview
The Medical Technologist I is responsible for performing laboratory testing and procedures in any/all areas of the laboratory and reporting timely accurate test results.
Our laboratory testing plays a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric, adult and prenatal conditions.
With state-of-the-art laboratory services, facilities and technologies, we support and guide quality patient care across the pediatric spectrum.
Our labs offer a wide range of high-quality lab screenings and diagnostic tests with rapid turnaround times, as well as an unmatched scope and capabilities, including diagnostic tests that aren't available anywhere else in the country.
The specialists in our Microbiology Lab serve as vital consultants to our physicians, helping to determine what medications will cure an infection.
Working closely with other teams throughout the hospital and the clinical laboratory - like the Infectious Disease, Antimicrobial Stewardship and Pharmacy teams - this lab aids in the diagnosis of many diseases, including those caused by bacteria, fungi, parasites and other microorganisms.

Department: Microbiology Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits Shift: Evening, 1430-2300.
With rotating weekends and holidays.
Qualifications
EDUCATION - Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
EQUIVALENCY - Meeting one of the other requirements set by the ASCP Board of Certification may be accepted in lieu of degree.
CERTIFICATION(S) -Medical Technologist/Scientist Certification ASCP or equivalent or; certification required within 6 months of eligibility.
Previous microbiology experience preferred but not required.

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE Neonate - Infancy - >30 days to 1yr Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs School age - >5yrs to 13yrs Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs Adults > 18yrs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions.
These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Responsible for reporting accurate results, evaluating results for clinical significance and validity, and for recognition of atypical/abnormal results requiring additional follow up.
Ensures quality control is acceptable and instrumentation is functioning and maintained within defined tolerance limits and documentation is completed.
Consciously works to minimize errors and takes responsibility for correcting and documenting errors in a timely manner.
Performs all laboratory functions according to standard operating procedures and guidelines established by regulatory agencies, including participation in proficiency testing and familiarization with regulations and quality indicators.
Troubleshoots equipment and assay performance when results are questionable.
May teach, train and/or mentor new employees, students and other healthcare professionals according to standard operating procedures, when requested.
May procure blood from patients by venipuncture, fingerstick or heelstick to obtain blood samples for analysis following age-specific guidelines.

Salary Information
Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $59,514.35 to $89,271.53
Hourly Salary Range: $28.61 to $42.92
