The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) prepares specimens for analysis by accessioning orders via LIS (CIS), verifying specimen acceptability and performing established pre-analytical procedures in accordance with laboratory policy in an accurate, safe and timely manner. This role provides support services for the clinical laboratories by resolving problem specimens/orders and responding to telephone inquiries for test results and specimen collection criteria.
The Medical Lab Technician job duties are performed in a customer focused, courteous and efficient manner. This job must be available for other duties as assigned by team leaders, supervisors, and departmental Managers. Additionally, this job provides accurate and timely testing and reports results to requesting physicians and other health care professionals for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
The Medical Lab Technician should consistently utilize excellent customer service skills to both internal and external customers at all times. This position displays a positive and professional interpersonal style with a strong commitment to the team effort is mandatory.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other equivalent accrediting agencies.
New graduates of an accredited program must obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:

Education/training REQUIRED:
Associate Degree in Clinical/Medical Lab Sciences or related science from an accredited program **unless grandfathered under previous requirements

Independent action(s) required:
Performance of procedures, evaluation and reporting of results as outlined in the manual of standard operating procedures.
Notification of panic values to ordering physicians.
Customer service oriented communications.

Additional position requirements:
Rotating weekends as required. Holiday scheduling as required.
On call availability, approximating 4-5 weeks per year, for emergency coverage on any shift.
