Primary Purpose and Main Responsibilities: • The Legal Counsel provides legal thought leadership and delivers timely, proactive, and responsive legal advice to internal clients, while minimizing risks to Goodyear.
• The position is focused on providing creative legal and compliance solutions thru continual collaboration with clients, focusing on client goals, and providing counsel through clear and direct communication while maintaining flexibility and rapidity.
• The Legal Counsel also supports Legal projects and teams for the Latin America Region at the direction of the Associate General Counsel, Latin America.
• Counsels and advises business on the legal ramifications of undertaking certain strategies and foregoing other strategies by providing, thorough risk analysis on applicable laws and regulations, impacts to business strategies.
• Keeps abreast of various developments in the law and updates relevant stakeholders.
• Assists the business in drafting and negotiating important contracts (, distribution, supply, services, confidentiality, and other contracts).
• Focuses on general corporate and commercial matters, employment/benefits and labor law, tax matters, legal issues in the supply chain and distribution chain, corporate governance and company secretarial matters.
• Drives compliance, handles disputes and litigation and is responsible for the relationship with outside counsel.
• Provides government affairs functions where appropriate.
• Keeps metrics and reports on Legal operations function that optimizes legal service delivery to impact the business.
• Responsible for the Legal budget and implements and tracks efficiencies to optimize legal spend.
Education and Certifications
Law Degree
Experience
Minimum of 7 years of legal experience in a top tier law firm or in a multinational company.
English fluency
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Technical mastery of laws relevant to Goodyear business, articulate communicator, able to efficiently convey legal concepts to laymen, ability to understand complex business and finance principles, agility, be committed to and communicate the importance of acting with integrity, interpersonal & communication skills, highly organized, able to succeed with limited supervision, problem solver, able to exercise independent judgment, comfortable with ambiguity and proven ability to interact with senior executives. Knowledge of Government relations.
