About this positionWe are looking for an experienced professional in Debt Capital Markets and Structured Finance to join its Debt Capital Markets and Structured Finance team within the Financial Products and Services Division as Senior Officer.
The Investment Operations Department (INO) is responsible for generating a portfolio of high-quality, creditworthy, and environmentally and socially sound projects that result in significant developmental impact. The business cycle goes from identifying, selecting, organizing, structuring, and executing transactions to their monitoring. The Department follows a matrix model, with three-segment divisions covering Infrastructure and Energy, Financial Institutions and Corporates, and two transversal divisions covering Financial Products and Services, and Portfolio Management.
The Financial Products and Services Division (FNP) works closely with the Segment divisions to provide product-structuring expertise in the following broad range of products and services: blended finance, capital markets solutions, equity and mezzanine, trade and supply chain finance, and resource mobilization.
The selected candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Head of Debt Capital Markets and Structured Finance (DCM&SF). The DCM&SF team plays a crucial role in originating and executing sustainable projects financed in the debt capital markets – such as Green, Social, Sustainable, and Sustainability-Linked bonds. This includes origination, due diligence, structuring, and legal documentation, all conducted in close collaboration with the Infrastructure and Energy, Corporates and Financial Institutions Divisions, Advisory Services, Blended Finance, Credit Risk, Legal, and Development Effectiveness teams.
The DCM & SF team is highly focused on execution, specializing in creating debt securities, enhancing capital markets, and developing complex, innovative structured funding solutions. This technical group works closely with multiple departments within IDB Invest.
What you'll doAs Senior Officer, your key responsibilities will be:
Origination and Deal Execution: Support the origination and lead the execution of debt securities deals. This includes evaluating, structuring, negotiating, and closing new transactions. Apply strong negotiation and problem-solving skills to develop financing solutions in debt securities format. The ideal candidate will have expertise in drafting term sheets, reviewing key contracts, and collaborating closely with legal teams on bond documentation.Deal Execution Coordination: Collaborate with various risk fields (credit, legal, compliance, reputational, operational, etc.) to develop a comprehensive view of bond transactions in local and/or international markets.Risk Management Capabilities: Provide guidance to internal teams to improve the first line of defense, supporting management in filtering and prioritizing potential transactions, thereby increasing the efficiency of the team's execution capabilities and overall delivery.Client Value and Development Impact: Focus on delivering value to IDB Invest's clients by finding practical technical solutions to sector challenges and achieving sustainable development impact.Market Analysis & Insight: Collaborate within the team and across IDB Invest for developing regional capital markets and structured finance strategies and support related promotion work, including marketing, mobilization of other investors, and communications.What you'll need• Education: Master's degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field; MBA, CFA, or relevant advanced degree preferred or other fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role is a plus.
• Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in debt capital markets, with a consistent track record of leading and executing local and/or international bond transactions. Knowledge of structured finance products, securitization markets, and related regulatory frameworks is a plus. Previous experience in developmental finance is preferred.
Candidates should possess a clear understanding of the operational work of IDB Invest or similar multilateral institutions as well as an understanding of the operational frameworks of the public sector and/or multilateral institutions. Knowledge and/or experience in Latin America and the Caribbean is essential.Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and inspire a diverse team.• Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.
Requirements• Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Panama, Peru or a non-citizen eligible to obtain residency or authorization to work in the country in which you are to be assigned without the need for sponsorship by IDB Invest.
• Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and durationNational staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
