Health Insurance Medical Underwriter - Medellin Job Title: Health Insurance Medical Underwriter Location: Medellin Employment Type: Full-Time, Hybrid. Monday to Friday Job Purpose The Health Insurance Medical Underwriter is responsible for assessing and evaluating medical risks for individual health insurance applications. This includes determining whether to accept or decline applicants and setting appropriate terms based on the risks involved. The underwriter will communicate these decisions clearly to agents and clients both verbally and in writing. Key Responsibilities Medical Risk Assessment: Evaluate health insurance applications using company guidelines, standards, and procedures to assess the medical risks presented. Review Medical History: Analyze the pertinent medical history of new and existing applicants to assess the degree of risk and decide on policy issuance. Provide Insurability Options: Recommend coverage options within the company's parameters, claims costs, and plan availability. Client & Agent Communication: Answer questions from agents and policyholders regarding products, exclusions, and claims decisions. Provide expert medical opinions when necessary to address cases of fraud or misrepresentation. Collaboration: Work effectively with field representatives, medical personnel, and other teams to obtain additional information as needed for proper risk evaluation. Daily Operations: Handle complex underwriting tasks with minimal supervision, analyze results, and make informed recommendations based on findings. Confidentiality Compliance: Ensure that all client and medical information remains confidential and adheres to privacy standards. Continuous Learning: Stay updated on new medical developments to improve underwriting effectiveness. Minimum Qualifications Education: Medical Degree Experience: Minimum of 2 years as a medical underwriter in a health or life insurance setting Medical Expertise: Solid understanding of medical conditions and their impact on insurability Market Experience: Familiarity with the Latin American insurance market Languages: Proficient in Portuguese, Spanish, and English Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills Excellent judgment and problem-solving abilities Detail-oriented, proactive, and self-motivated Effective planning and organizational skills Collaborative team player ttg Talent Solutions is an Equal Opportunity Employer and recruiting agency.
