Purpose Data Engineers are responsible for the development of ETL jobs that provide/process information to/from businesses within the Bank and its partners. They are experts in Azure Data Factory with in-depth knowledge of Cloud solutioning and data lineage technologies. The role requires strong skills in SQL Server programming and solid experience in ETL tools such as SSIS and similar technologies. These professionals excel in data processes such as aggregating, cleansing, and enrichment; lookup and referencing; pivoting and grouping; and process optimization with strict compliance to security and CAB (Change Admin Board) standards. Accountabilities Champion a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge. Resolve highly complex, multi-faceted problems to meet business needs, providing recommendations on design and methodologies, and system solutions. Provide business support to all units globally, including new and existing portfolios, ad hoc queries, and assist with the design and implementation of systems enhancements. Keep management informed and ensure problems and issues are escalated appropriately. Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and adopt the latest technologies and methodologies. Provide L1/L2/L3 support for ETL processes built on SSIS, DataStage, and PLSQL. Liaise with different teams to fix data quality issues. Coordinate and follow up with various teams, vendors, and third parties for issue resolution. Work with Infrastructure teams to coordinate infrastructure/environment-related upgrades, patches, and migration activities. Ensure documentation of issues, solutions, root causes, and findings for future problem resolutions. Utilize development techniques such as debugging, testing, and coding, with the use of version control tools like TFS. Possess performance tuning skills considered an asset. Be process-oriented in DevOps. Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be incorporated into day-to-day activities and decisions. Pursue effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles while ensuring adherence to day-to-day business controls. Education / Experience / Other Information Must have: Bachelor's degree in technology and/or engineering. 2 years of solid TSQL programming experience. 2 years experience in ETL tools such as SSIS (including experience with Python). Knowledge of Cloud solutions, particularly on MS Azure Technologies. In-depth understanding of modern Datahub and Data warehousing concepts. Extensive knowledge of ETL standards concerning data security and runtime process optimization. English level B1. Nice to have: 2 years Azure Data Factory pipeline development experience (nice to have).
