The successful candidate will serve as the lead attorney, providing critical advice and support to the heads of corporate strategy, business development, and research and early development. This role is pivotal in the company's mission to grow through external innovation and to advance its cutting-edge science in the development of transformative medicines. The Associate Director will be responsible for supporting strategic transactions, conducting legal due diligence, and structuring various agreements. Additionally, the role involves managing a team of contract associates, collaborating with intellectual property attorneys, and ensuring compliance with legal and contractual obligations.
Applicants must have a J.D. from a nationally recognized law school, at least 5 years' of experience in structuring and negotiating various agreements within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries, and a strong background in a scientific field relevant to these industries. A solid understanding of intellectual property issues, the ability to advise on both business and legal matters, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential. The role requires a strategic thinker with excellent organizational and time-management skills, and a strong team player capable of managing a significant workload and aligning priorities with internal clients. The candidate should be a member of the California Bar or eligible for in-house counsel registration and be prepared to work onsite at the company's headquarters at least 2 days a week.
